Mil Lel Primary School is taking part in a competition run by UniSA to collect the most bottle lids.
Uni SA Mount Gambier are running a recycling initiative in partnership with Envision who take plastic bottle caps and recycle them into 3D filament, prosthetic hands, and other usable STEM items for the community.
UniSA is offering two prizes of $500 for the primary and the secondary school that can collect the most bottle caps during weeks 1 – 5 of Term 3. The idea behind the project is to engage school students with being environmentally conscious and socially responsible, while providing SRCs an opportunity to lead within their schools and the chance to win a $500 prize towards for their school.
What type of bottle caps are eligible?
- No 2 and No 4 bottle caps only. If there is no 2 or 4 on the inside of the cap, please do not add to collection. These caps are most commonly found on milk, juice and soft-drink containers.
- Bottle caps must be washed and dried.
- Please take out the plastic seal (ring) as this cannot be used by Envision
My school is small, do we have a chance to win?
Absolutely! The winning school will have the most bottle caps per capita. E.g. 1000 bottle caps / 500 students = 2 per student; 1000 bottle caps/ 100 students = 10 per student. (Please note bottle caps will be measured by weight, rather than counting).
Please give your bottle caps to Mrs Schutz or the front office .
