F/1 Term 2 Week 1

We have all settled back in to school well and had a busy week of new learning. On Wednesday we enjoyed a visit by 3 Police Officers to talk to us about Cyber Safety as well as keeping safe in the community too. We have an incursion with Nature Play SA on Monday 13th May. Notes were sent home on Tuesday.

Our social focus this week has been on the Golden Rule of Treat others as you would like them to treat you. We focused on taking turn, using manners, sharing, being kind. In each Discovery Learning session the focus children explained how they had demonstrated the Golden Rule and also if they saw other children showing the Golden Rule as well.

In Maths we began to explore patterns through creating our own patterns. We are also focusing on place value and have explored using the MAB to represent numbers.

Our literacy included revisiting sounds from last term, recognising short and long vowels, writing words with different letter patterns and making sure we write all the sounds we can hear in the word. In bookmaking we are focused on making the beginning of our books interesting. We will be exploring Julia Donaldson books in both reading and writing sessions. We are still wanting volunteers to listen to some children read in the mornings if you are available any morning.

Foundations writing ‘cvc’ words in columns according to the first sound. They were all very proud of their work!

Year 1s focusing on the first 2 sounds in longer words.. sometimes the second sound can be trickier to hear for children so we focused on revising this during the week. They were very proud of their work also.

We experimented with using the Bee Bots in technology. We used them on the mats and also used the iPad app. Bee bots are a coding tool and focus programming the Bee Bot to follow directions.
